| Crockpot Pumpkin Chili is a sure sign of October! (Photo from Kalyn's Kitchen.) |
A sure sign that it's October is when recipes with pumpkin are showing up on nearly every food blog. I've already confessed that (gasp) I'm not a big fan of sweet pumpkin recipes, but I love savory pumpkin dishes, and spicy pumpkin chili is something I always make in the slow cooker this time of year. Seems I'm not the only one who likes pumpkin chili with spicy flavors, so here are Good Ideas for Pumpkin Chili to start in your slow cooker sometime on Halloween morning and enjoy for dinner while you're handing out the candy to trick-or-treating goblins!
The top photo is my own version of pumpkin chili, and this Crockpot Pumpkin Chili with Ground Beef, Black Beans, and Kidney Beans has been a big hit on Kalyn's Kitchen. I use garlic, cumin, chili powder, Ancho chili powder, dried cilantro and diced green chiles to give the chili plenty of spicy flavor.

This Smoky Crock Pot Pumpkin Chili from Pretty Kitten's Kitchen is another vegetarian chili option, with onion, smoked paprika, chili powder, oregano, and sage to spice up the flavors. This one also has some corn along with the beans.
A chili using lean ground turkey is this Crock Pot Turkey White Bean Pumpkin Chili from Skinnytaste, first featured on Slow Cooker from Scratch in February 2012. It's good enough to repeat, with onion, garlic, chili powder, bay leaves, oregano, and green chiles adding flavor to the white beans and ground turkey.

And one more idea for a meatless chili from Kitchen Treaty, where Kare and her carnivore husband both enjoyed this Vegetarian Slow Cooker Black Bean Chili. This pumpkin chili version is flavored with onion, yellow bell pepper, chili powder, cinnamon, cumin, nutmeg, and cloves, and Kare says after making countless versions of pumpkin chili, this is the one she liked best.

I keep thinking of trying pumpkin in chili but haven't gotten around to it. So nice to see so many different variations - definitely on my list to try this winter.
Jeanette, I was skeptical, but I really liked it.
