(For Friday Favorites we spotlight past recipes that you may have missed, and this Slow Cooker Spicy Brown Rice with Sausage and Peppers (from Kalyn's Kitchen) is a favorite recipe I've made over and over.)

I don't mind chopping some sausage, peppers, and onions and browning them for a few minutes before they go in the slow cooker when I can end up with a dish as delicious as this Slow Cooker Spicy Brown Rice with Sausage and Peppers, and I loved this recipe.  This might make a good dinner on a day when you don't think about what to cook until mid-afternoon, because after about 25 minutes to chop and saute the sausage, peppers, and rice, you can relax for the next two hours while the rice cooks unattended in the slow cooker!

  1. I've found that taking that extra time to do the browning always pays off in the end!

  2. Pam, I agree completely. Sadly, some people won't even consider a recipe if you have to do any preparation other than putting the stuff in the slow cooker!

  5. Helene, this was hard to get a good photo of, but I absolutely loved it. And I am loving the idea of rice in the slow cooker in general.

  6. Hi Kalyn, this has become my go-to dinner when I get home and have to turn around and go out for a few hours, but want to come home to a good meal.

Wanted to let you know that I did an odd variation of it and the Lake Powell Spicy Rice last night, it was a huge success. I substituted chicken andouille sausage for the turkey sausage, took out most of the cayenne (just because the sausage was pretty spicy), and added in the Tony Chachere's and a can of stewed tomatoes on whim. It was AWESOME.

  7. Sandi, so glad you have been enjoying it! I love the sound of that variation (and I have chicken-Andouille sausage in the freezer.)
