Ten From-Scratch Recipes for Slow Cooker Refried Beans (plus Recipes using Refried Beans)

Slow Cooker Refried Beans
Refried beans for every type of diet or food preference, made in the slow cooker!

Most cooks probably have a can or two of refried beans in the pantry, but there are actually a few reasons for making From-Scratch Refried Beans in the Slow Cooker instead of buying them.  First, when you make your own refried beans you control exactly what goes in, so whether you want a recipe that's low-fat, fat-free, vegan, low in salt, spicy, or mild, you make the beans exactly the way you like them.  Second, there's no question that from-scratch refried beans are more economical than canned ones, and beans keep well in the freezer.  But most important of all to many of these bloggers, home-cooked refried beans have that creamy bean flavor you just can't get from a can.  Here are ten recipes for From-Scratch Refried Beans in the Slow cooker from food bloggers.  Each one is slightly different, so look them over and see which version fits your own personal preferences for perfect refried beans!  (Then once you have some home-cooked refried beans,  check out the ideas for using refried beans in the slow cooker at the end of the post.)

Great post! I've never made refried beans, and the slow cooker seems like a natural. I love all of the variations and now just need to figure out which one to make first.
