This Instant Pot Ham and Bean Soup is the very first pressure cooker recipe I ever made, and recently I gave this recipe a photo make-over!
Many years ago I started my journey into pressure cooking with a stovetop pressure cooker, and I made this Instant Pot Ham and Bean Soup and posted it on Kalyn’s Kitchen. This is an ultra flavor soup with Southwestern flavors like cumin and green chiles, and there’s an option to include cilantro for people who enjoy that.
Recently I decided this long-ago favorite soup really needed a photo update, so I updated the recipe and took some pictures which really do show off how delicious it is much better than the old ones did! I added an option to make the soup with canned pinto beans if you like, and also increased the ham to make a soup that’s lower in carbs! And we also added Green Tabasco Sauce to the finished soup for a bit more spicy flavor!
What ingredients do you need for this recipe?
- canned pinto beans
- Olive Oil (affiliate link)
- ground cumin (affiliate link)
- dried cilantro (affiliate link), probably optional but recommended
- can of diced green chiles (affiliate link)
- diced ham
- can of petite dice tomatoes
- canned chicken broth (affiliate link) or stock
- Goya Ham Flavor Concentrate (affiliate link), optional, but good
- green onions
- chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
- Green Tabasco Sauce (affiliate link)
- cut limes, to squeeze on at the table (optional)
Why is this recipe a favorite for me?
It’s the spicy Southwestern flavors that aren’t traditional in ham and bean soup that make this recipe such a favorite for me. And definitely I would serve it with a squeeze of lime to brighten up the finished soup!
