(For Friday Favorites we spotlight recipes from the past that you might have missed, and this recipe for Slow Cooker Beef, Ale, and Onion Stew sounds like the kind of cold-weather food that always turns out perfectly in the slow cooker.)

This Slow Cooker Beef, Ale, and Onion Stew from The Perfect Pantry is winter comfort food at it's best.  The beef is browned and added to the slow cooker where it simmers with onion, Dijon mustard, wine, ale, thyme, tomato paste, and a bay leaf.  Then after six hours you add pearl onions and sauteed mushrooms and simmer for another hour and a half.  This stew sounds like something I'd love to dig into on a cold evening!
